Everyone loves a good healthy snack. Trail mix? Yum. Vitamin filled H2O, heck yes. But not everything that claims to be "healthy" actually is. In fact, some of the things you think are good for ya, are actually not all that great. Here are the ones you need to avoid, stat...

Pretzels: Unfortunately, this classic snack has a crazy amount of sodium, which can be pretty bad if you're trying to start off the New Year right.

Instead: Have some salted pistachios or almonds. They have less sodium and provide a good serving of protein. Plus, nuts can give ya the perf post-gym boost.

  • 2_trailmix.jpg

Trail Mix: Only two handfuls of this delish snack puts you at 350 calories, and the processed chocolate (as much as we love it) doesn’t help either…

Instead: Try a KIND fruit-and-nut bar, or have fun making your own

  • 3_smoothie.jpg

Store-bought Smoothies: Sadly, one 16 oz. bottle can reach up to 300 calories. While there are some cals that are good, these cals aren't all that great--they can be loaded with bad sugars and tons' of additives.

Instead: Experiment in the kitchen by making your own healthy smoothie.

  • 4_cheesecrackers.jpg

Cheese Crackers: The average serving size for our fave cheese crackers is 27, which may seem like a lot. However, those 20+ crackers are high in simple carbs (aka: the reason you keep cravin').

Instead: Use 100% whole grain bread, as your snack staple. It’s a good source of protein and healthy fats, which help decrease cravings.

  • 5_bananachips.jpg

Banana Chips: These yummy bites look harmless, ‘cause they’re made of bananas, but they're usually fried and can contain up to 8 grams of saturated fat. No bueno!

Instead: Opt for a good ol’ fashioned banana, which is only 121 calories and has zero grams of saturated fat.
