Super lice are here to kill your good hair day

If you ever had to sit on a stool while the school nurse yanked a comb through your hair—and, worse, found something worth calling your mother about—you know there are few things more horrible for the elementary school social climber than a case of lice. It means constant checking, picking out nits, shampooing with stinky ointments, washing all your stuff and worrying about every little itch.

Well, scientists have bad news. A new study shows that lice are becoming more and more difficult to get rid of. A new strain is even proving to be resistant to common over-the-counter treatments. And, to make this even harder to take, these nasty little buggers are spreading faster than anyone thought they would. A poll of moms in the U.S. showed that one-third of parents were unable to treat their kid’s lice with a traditional medication. Holy super lice, Batman.

There IS a ray of sunshine in the form of tea tree oil and other more time consuming natural remedies. Picking through a removing nits is still effective, and applying the oil does seem to do the buggies in. And if all else fails? Well, call the doc.
