Splurge or save? Here's what workout gear is actually worth it...

We all love cute clothes -- even if it means having a major sweat sesh in them. But are the high price tags that come along with stylish fitness gear actually worth it? GL is breaking down which gym accessories and clothing are worth the splurge, and which you should leave behind at the mall.

    Yoga Mat: Save

If you’re trying to enter the world of namaste, a good yoga mat is a must-have. They're not only great for marking your spot in a yoga class, but they provide good grip and cushion so you aren’t sliding around and hurting yourself (or others) while doing the downward dog. Find one that has a good grip and is designed specifically for yoga, that way you have no embarrassing slip-ups in class. Hint: 5 Below has some great, colorful yoga mats for only $5 -- you can’t beat that!

    Athletic Shoes: Splurge

A girl can never have too many shoes. Having the right athletic shoes is crucial to your performance in the gym, and since there are so many different types to choose from, it's important to do your research and test all them out. We suggest choosing one that suits your workout needs, for example: If you are a runner, buy a good pair of running sneaks. If you are a hiker, invest in a pair that is peft for hitting those rocky slopes. Remember girlies, if you don’t have the right shoe for the activity you perform, you could risk some no-fun injuries. So just buy the shoes—you’ll be happy you did!

    Dumbbells: Save

Just like a water bottle, a dumb bell is a simple tool—it’s just weight. There’s no use in spending your hard earned cash on something as simple as this. Go the thrify route and find something around your house to use as a weight like soup cans, or just simply buy a cheap set. Expesive, or cheapweights all do the same job...regardless of the price.

    Water bottle: Save

You already know how important it is to drink water—especially while at the gym, but is an expensive water bottle really necessary? Nope. Let's be real here...a water bottle is simply a bottle that holds your water. Unless you feel passionately about drinking filtered water 24/7, there's no reason to splurge on this item. Try finding a practical bottle that does essentially the same job as a fancy labeled one—you won't even be able to tell the difference!
