Q: Is it ok to stretch cold muscles?

We checked in with Judy Molnar, USAT Triathlon Level 1 Coach and ACE certified personal trainer, to get the skinny on stretching out before warming up. Here’s what she had to say:

“The opinions vary, but it is not good to stretch a cold muscle as you can cause an injury. A good practice is to start your main workout session with a low intensity, build up easy for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then slow down and begin your stretching. Stretching is good for reducing stress, preventing muscle soreness and decreasing the chance of injury.”
