Why you should hit the pool for a winter workout (and four moves to get ya buff for that bodycon dress)

Just about every community has a public indoor pool you can get a membership to, and if you’re lucky, that public pool might just be at your school. Slip on a comfy one-piece that you won’t be tugging at, and give the water a try. Yeah, it might seem a little counter-intuitive to splash around when there are icicles outside, but once you get moving, you’ll warm right up. Here are the moves that’ll have ya ready for bikini season by the time the outdoor pools open.

Freestyle

Scooping the water outta your way will tone your forearms without leaving your hands smelling like free weights. Bonus? No sweat.

Backstroke

Hello, hot shoulders, where have you guys been hanging out? Work on ‘em now and be ready to rock that strapless stunner come New Year’s, too.

Floating

Use your abs to keep your body stable. Getting the shakes? Yep, that six-pack-to-be is working hard!

Treading water

Eggbeat the water with your feet, keeping your legs from the thigh down moving constantly to keep your head above water. Killer calves, trim thighs.

Push-ups

Dump the pull-up bar in the gym in favor of swimming up to the sidelines and boosting yourself up ‘n’ over the side of the pool. Hold yourself in the air for five seconds, keeping your upper body straight and your shoulders even (and not hunched up by your ears), then lower. Repeat ‘til ya can’t anymore.
