My Period Lasts Too Long

My period lasts to long. It lasts about two weeks each month. Is there any way to make it shorter?

Unfortunately, our bodies have a mind of their own, and there is no natural way for us to determine the length of our periods. You might find that the duration of your period naturally decreases as you get older, though.

The only way to mess with the length of your period, says Elizabeth Bobby, a nurse practitioner at About Women By Women in Wellesley, Mass., is by taking birth control pills, but that's NOT something you want to jump to unless your doctor and parents recommend it. If you're worried that your period is longer than it should be, your best bet is to visit your doc and make sure everything's OK.

Getting our periods is one of nature's most uncomfortable miracles. It's hard to see the upside (you'll be able to have a baby someday!) when you're crampin' and breakin' out. But as our bodies grow and change, so do our periods, so hang in there--it'll get easier I promise!

We want to hear from you! Send us your weirdest body questions here (seriously, we'll answer anything!) and it just might get featured.
