I'm allergic to our pets

Our family has a dog and a cat. Recently, I found out I'm allergic to both dogs and cats -- two of my fav animals. We got to keep our pets (apparently I'm only partly allergic), but I can't help but be really annoyed. I can't cuddle with my dog, and I start getting short of breath around my cat, so neither animal is allowed in my room.
It's not fair! I've been begging my parents for a puppy of my own, of a hypoallergenic breed, but they keep saying no. How can I get my parents to see my point of view, and try to do something to make it better?
So here's the thing: part of growing up means learning the meaning of compromise. You are so lucky to have parents that care about your health—and as fair or not fair as it may seem, your health should always come first.

Thinking of a solution in a hypoallergenic breed isn't a bad idea, but keep in mind that dogs are a lot of work. You already have two great pets that are lucky to have your love—that's more than a lot of girls can say. Sometimes we outgrow allergies, other times we learn to adapt to or cope with our surroundings. Talk to your parents and your doctor about allergy medications that might help relieve your symptoms without making you drowsy.

If you still really want a second dog, keep your cool and show your parents that you're responsible enough to handle taking care of another animal. Let them know that though you're frustrated, you understand it's important to get a handle on your allergies first. Besides, no one wants to be sneezy and watery-eyed all the time.

Plus, there are perks to not having a dog or cat in your room: no pet hair everywhere! Hang in there, girl.
