Does kissing cause Mono?

Is it true that you can get Mono from kissing?

It’s true that you can catch Mono (Mononucleosis), or the “kissing disease,” from kissing someone with the virus. But, there are other ways you can catch it too, like sharing a drink or even lip gloss with someone who’s infected. Essentially, any method of sharing germs with someone, just like a flu virus, can spread Mono.

Does this mean you should never kiss or share food with anyone? No way! Just be careful about who you’re smooching or sharing with.

How do you know if you have mono? Cases can range in severity, but if you have flu-like symptoms and serious fatigue (we’re talking “too-tired-to-get-through-the-day-everyday-even-though-you-get-plenty-of-sleep” fatigue), it’s a good idea to head to the doctor’s office for some blood tests. Until then, take your physical activity down a notch, don’t overdo it and rest up.
