Your Bod

What's up with the hair on my bod?

The hair on my ankles grows faster than the hair on the rest of my leg. What's going on?

There are two things that might be going on here. The first is that you might not be shaving your ankles quite as thoroughly as the rest of your legs, so the hairs on your ankles might have a longer growth period before you set ‘em back to step one.

If you don’t shave or wax or anything, or you’re a compulsive ankle shaver, here’s a biological answer for you. The hair on your body grows at different rates. The follicles, which are controlled by hormones, don’t allow for the same hair growth all over your bod, so your lovely locks and your eyebrows and your armpits all grow at different rates. And while some hair—like that on the top of your head—will grow as long as you let it, hair on the rest of your body—think eyebrows—comes to a stopping point.

Long story short? While it might be a funky body thing, it’s not something to worry about. If it bothers you, just shave your ankles a li’l bit more frequently.
