Your Bod

I feel so behind!

I am 13 years old and in the eighth grade, and I still don’t have my period. I feel really awkward because everybody I know has gotten their period already. I feel like something is wrong with me. What should I do?

Sweetie, I’m sorry you feel so alone and left out. Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do to accelerate puberty or the arrival of your period—though once it actually arrives, I’m sure you’ll be longing for the days when you were period-free!

The time has come for you to embrace your body as it is now, instead of coveting the changes you see in your peers. Every girl matures at a different time and speed, and just as there are girls ahead of you, I’m sure there are girls whose bodies are maturing slower than yours is.

Trust me when I say that there is nothing wrong with you. If you’re still worried, ask Mom to make you a doctor’s appointment to rule out a real problem. Chances are, your bod is programmed to play out puberty in the upcoming years. Womanhood—and all that comes with it—is on its way, chica. Don’t rush it!

We want to hear from you! Send us your weirdest body questions here (seriously, we'll answer anything!) and it just might get featured.
