Your Bod

Lopsided Breasts

My breasts are two different sizes. Is this normal, and how do I wear a bathing suit?
Does one of your breasts seem larger than the other? Well, you’re not alone.  Differences in breast size can be detected in about half of all women. Chances are that you’re the only one who even notices—so try not to sweat it out.

Dr. Jeanne Petrek, surgeon/director at the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, assures us that “breast asymmetry” is quite normal and poses no health problems. In fact, she says, about half of all women have differences in breast size—and it’s usually the left breast that’s larger. And if you’re still growing, the smaller breast has until about age 18 to catch up.

Unless your nickname is “Tina Two Size,” chances are that you’re the only one who even notices. One breast a whole cup size larger than the other? Get a bathing suit with removable pads and remove the pad on your fuller side. But whatever you do, don’t try to fill out the smaller side with tissue—you’ll end up with shred in the water and red on your face.

You can also try designing your own one-of-a-kind swimsuit. Go to http://www.sewsassy.com and you’ll find the supplies, fabric and patterns for a unique swimsuit that’s a perfect fit.
