5 easy ways to give back during the holidays

Between shopping, cooking and wrapping gifts, it's hard not to get caught up in making sure your holiday celebrations are perfect. Hoever, this time of year should also be about sharing kindness with everyoneand volunteering is a way to do just that. Take a step back from the holiday hustle and bustle and check out the feel-good opps below.

1. Gather donations for a food bank
There are many families in our country who struggle to put food on the table. Fortunately, Feeding America works to gather donations and provide food for over 46 million people each year. Learn how you can help support a local food bank through the Feeding America Food Bank Network.

2. Visit the senior center
People of all ages enjoy the holidays. Take the time to get to know some of the older people in your community. They'll surely have some great stories to share. Contact your local senior center or learn how you can become involved through The Senior Source.

3. Care for a furry friend
Stray animals require a lot of attention and resources. Many animal shelters rely on the support of volunteers to provide for these animals. Find out how you can donate supplies or help out at your local shelter here.

4. Send cards to active military members
Not everyone gets to be home for the holidays. Let military members know that you are thankful for their service by sending a letter through A Million Thanks.

5. Gather clothes to donate
Before you go hunting down those holiday sales, take the time to go through your closet. Are there any sweaters that no longer fit, or that you never really wear? Instead of letting them remain hidden in the back of your closet, why not give your clothes a second life? Have your friends do the same and while you're out shopping, drop by the Goodwill store to make a donation.
