Stuck at home? Stage your own DIY Insta photoshoot!

Less time outdoors equals a lack of social-media-worthy opportunities...or does it?

Just because you're in quarantine doesn't mean you can't capture your fair share of content; in fact, the increase in downtime gives you the perfect excuse to up your Instagram game. "Because of the coronavirus outbreak, I can't leave to take pictures, so I have to be creative and find places around my house to shoot," says Gianna Ferazi, a model and social media influencer with over 107K followers. "For a Sugar Bear Hair collab, I shot pictures in my kitchen, and I posed in Dolls Kill outfits in my car and bedroom. I even shot one campaign in my laundry room!"

Channel your inner influencer and stage your own at-home photoshoot while social distancing—thank us later when your following starts to skyrocket.

"Quarantine and chill?" "Dressed up with nowhere to go?" It's often best to come up with a fab caption first and move forward from there.

Pick your props.

If you're showing off a new dish you made in the kitchen, make sure to keep the ingredients out on the counter to give your followers a behind-the-scenes look. If you're shooting on your bed or couch, holding a pet is the perfect prop.

Style your outfit.

Loungewear is all the rage right now, so pull out your fave pair of PJs or a printed sweatsuit. Accessorize your ensemble with slippers or simple jewelry to look put together—like you *didn't* just roll out of bed.

Find good lighting.

Position your cameraman (aka Mom or little sibs) in front of a window so that the sun hits you directly. Artificial light works just as well, particularly from a ring light that simultaneously eliminates shadows (Amazon sells a small selfie ring light for just $13).

Shoot lots of photos.

Take advantage of the iPhone's burst mode and take a ton of pics, slightly altering your position or facial expression as the camera snaps away. Every minute or so, check the bursts to observe, adjust, and shoot again if necessary.

Feel free to add a filter.

Day 6 of quarantine...I think I’ve lost it πŸ€ͺ

Adobe Lightroom and VSCO feature a variety of aesthetically-pleasing filters to tint your images and ultimately create a more curated feed.

Use proper hashtags.

Specific hashtags will categorize your post with others that give off a similar vibe. #QuarantineLife and #StayAtHome are currently trending on Instagram, and incorporating popular trends will help bring more traction to your page.
