Decisions, decisions: 5 easy ways to be more decisive
As you grow older, more privileges and responsibilities will come your way, and more control over your life means more you'll have to make more choices and decisions. From what you're having for breakfast to what colleges you want to apply to, your choices will range from big and monumental to small and inconsequential. No matter their size, though, sometimes making even the simplest of decisions can be difficult–but they don't have to be. Here's 5 easy as pie tips to help you become more decisive.
1. Believe in yourself
Picture yourself as someone who can make decisions quickly, and then believe that you are that person! Don't tell yourself that you are indecisive, it will only make things harder. Fake it 'til you make it and soon enough you will become that vision of confidence.
2. Know there's no such thing as a bad decision
Instead of worrying about the outcome, remind yourself that each choice is a learning opportunity that you can grow from. Deciding will always top doing nothing at all. Make your decision and act upon it.
3. Be brave
Everyone makes mistakes, so don't fear making one! There are always solutions and support to help you reach a goal even after you've slipped up.
4. Trust your gut
No one has more control over you than yourself. Do what feels right. If you're feeling scattered, write your thoughts and feelings down on a piece of paper. This will help you visualize what you need to do and rid yourself of any uneasy feelings.
Just like a sport, gaining confidence in decision making takes time and practice and you can't simply jump into the deep end. Start by making many small choices quickly. Perhaps try planning your outfits for the week each Sunday. If you find that you take a long time to choose, set yourself a time limit. This may be difficult at first, but it will help you learn to clearly make split-second decisions. Just keep in mind that practice makes perfect!
