LIFE

Dear Carol

"Dear Carol, I'm really jealous of one of my friends..."

Dear Carol,
I’m jealous of this girl. Everything about her seems perfect. I know her life probably isn’t perfect, but she seems put-together, popular, has a family who loves her and is super spoiled. She has everything I don’t have, including the looks I lack. How can I become more like her?
–Jealous Much?

Dear Jealous Much?,
Your aim isn't to be more like her—it’s to be the best you that you can be and to feel good about that. We're all dealt different cards and we do our best with what we have. If I wanted to be a tall blond scientist, I'd be out of luck. But I like being a petite brunette writer. What are your skills and interests? In what field can you excel? There will always be girls who seem luckier, cooler, richer, etc. than you, but trust me—there are others who would love to be you. Read the front page of the newspaper and you'll see that in the grand scheme of things, you are a very lucky person. Own that and reach out to the girls who make you feel good rather than dwelling on this individual.
