What to do when your parents are worried about something big

Usually, it’s you who’s freaking 24/7. But when it’s Mom and Dad? Well, that’s a whole other ball game. There’s something unsettling about your normally steady parents worrying about something. Whether it’s money probs or issues with a relative or close friend, here’s how to deal when your ‘rents are stressed.

Help out around the house

When your ‘rents are already dealing with anxiety or stress, it’s so much worse when they have a messy house to tend to or lots of chores that need to get done. Give your parents a helping hand by cleaning up the dinner table after you eat, taking care of the laundry, or making lunches for your sibs—WITHOUT being asked. That way, your parents can relax because they’ll have less things to worry about, AND they’ll be happy to see how nicely their daughter has matured!

Getting along

Try to avoid fighting with your sibs—the extra tension might be hard on your parents. If you feel like a fight is starting to boil up between you and your little bro, swallow your pride and take the high road and just let him believe that he’s right. Chances are, this little spat won’t even make a difference in the long run.

A little TLC

You know how sometimes when you’re upset it just feels so comforting when someone gives you a hug? Show your ‘rents that you care by making them laugh and giving them hugs. This is scientifically proven to work, too—when you hug someone you love, a hormone called oxytocin is released, which makes your mind and body feel more relaxed.
