How Taylor Swift's re-recordings inspire us to reinvent our lives

1989 (Taylor's Version) is almost here! After the OG 1989 came out in 2014, 1989 TV  gives us five new "vault tracks" *and* ah-mazing re-recordings of the classic tracks.

Fab new tunes aside, we're stoked about 1989 (Taylor's Version) for the whole concept of re-recording a popular album. It gives Taylor the chance to refine and adapt her older work, updating her songs from a different stage of life to fit her current life and priorities.

We're in love with the idea of re-doing some part of our lives in a way that honors our past selves *and* our current interests and goals. So here are three simple ideas to get inspired by T-Swift's newest album and "re-record" some parts of your own life!

1) Reach out to old friends

Maybe you fell out of touch with your elementary school bestie. Or maybe you have a friend you haven't talked to for a while, or someone you always wanted to be friends with but never reached out to apart from sitting next to them in class and texting them Q's about the bio homework.

Now is the perfect time to reach out to people you may have fallen out of touch with and bring them back into your life! Even if they live far away, your friend will appreciate getting a text from you, and you could always FaceTime or Zoom to catch up if it's been a couple of years.

Don't feel shy about reaching out to someone even if you've never been very close. Odds are, they'll be happy to know you were thinking about them, and you might just get a new BFF! Just because you're not in the same social circle anymore doesn't mean the moment has passed to be better friends, especially if you regret not being closer with them before. Take inspo from Taylor and rewrite the story.

2) Give an old activity another chance

Did you play guitar for a few months, but had to give it up because you were too busy? Or try to learn to crochet but stopped because it was too hard to figure out on your own?

If it's an activity you enjoyed, or one you'd still like to get better at, take this as your sign to give it another try. Whether it's ballet or softball pitching or calculus, it can be so frustrating to feel like you've failed, and it's nerve-racking to go back.

Please don't feel pressure to go back to an activity that you weren't truly enjoying or wasn't serving you. (Drama club had more drama offstage than on? No thanks!) But if it's something you really did enjoy, now is a wonderful time to give it another go.

You don't have to decide to commit to this activity til the end of time. Even spending one Saturday afternoon checking out some YouTube tutorials or researching supplies might be enough to help you decide if it's something you want to take up again, or something better left buried. No matter what you decide, you'll be glad you gave it another go!

3) Re-try a difficult conversation

So many of Taylor's songs hint at a conversation she wishes she could have had with someone [we're looking at you, "I Wish You Would (Taylor's Version)"].

While we hope you'll never go through heartbreak like Taylor's, take a page out of her book and use this summer to reconnect with someone you might need to clear the air with.

Maybe you and your sis never quite reached closure after your fight last month. Or maybe you have something you'd like to say to a parent or a friend but never found the right way to approach it. No matter what, the person you talk to will appreciate the time and effort you took to reach out, and you may even reach closure on a longtime sore spot between the two of you.
