Hangin' With Zeke and Luther's Daniel Curtis Lee

Who doesn’t love a skater boy? And Disney XD’s hilarious sitcom Zeke and Luther (which returns with a spankin’ new season this Monday, March 15) is filled with them!

GL’s very own Trish McNamara got a chance to hang with the cuties on the show’s L.A. set to find out what the guys are really like.

We’ve already spilled the scoop on Hutch Dano and Adam Hicks, but what about 19-year-old Daniel Curtis Lee, who plays loud-mouthed Kojo?

Meet…the real-life Kojo. Kojo is Zeke and Luther’s friend—and foe. Always challenging the boys’ skills, the dude with some serious ’tude is willing to take the buds down whenever he can. But Daniel’s nothing like the bully he appears on screen. Don’t believe us? Read on…

GL: Why are you a fan of Kojo?
He’s happy with himself. And sometimes it comes off that’s he’s a bit insecure, which is why he is mean to everybody. [But] because he is the jerk of the show, his confidence is unmatchable, so I like that. I don’t like the fact that he’s super cocky, but confidence is always nice. Ladies like [that].

Are you like Kojo in real life?
I’m different. I’m a person who believes all people are equal on all levels. No one is better than anyone at all, you know? But I’m like Kojo because he’s athletically inclined. He’s one of the better skaters. I played football all my life and was captain of the defense my senior year [of high school]. The week before playoffs, I had to leave to start working on this show.

What’s one thing you can be found doing on set in between shooting scenes?
Me and Adam [Hicks] will kick it and just freestyle all day because we’re both rappers. There aren’t many rappers I respect lyrically, and then for me to be filming with one like every day, it feels good. We work on music a lot together.

If you could be in anyone’s music video right now, whose would it be and why?
There are these guys called MGMT. They’re this techno group and I’d love to be in their music video. You gotta check out some of their videos. They’re so far-fetched and insane.

So Zeke and Luther is centered around guys. What’s one thing that you think girls would love about the show?
Well, it’s comedy. Girls love a guy who can make them laugh. And, it’s stuff that you can watch. [We have] Ginger, Zeke’s little sister, so we keep the girls side going on the show. We have a lot of fun and people can respect that about any show--whether it’s geared towards a particular [gender] or not.

What’s one thing that totally confuses you about girls?
I can honestly say, I don’t have a clue about girls. One minute they’re super nice and really feeling you, and then the next day you’re like, “Wait a minute, I thought we were cool and now you won’t even talk to me?!”

Any tips you could give girls for being confident—perhaps helping them when it comes to being around guys?
Spend time with yourself—like going out to lunch and things like that. I used to battle with this. I use to be quick to be like, “Oh man, I need [friends] to go grab something to eat.” And, I wouldn’t grab anything to eat if no one would come with me or if I couldn’t take a girl with me.  You’re most confident when you can go into a restaurant, sit by yourself and eat your food without looking around. Just try that out.

You’re originally from Mississippi. What’s one thing you miss about home?
The nature. It’s something that you can’t get too much. They call it the, “concrete jungle,” out here [in L.A.] and it definitely is a lot like that. [In Mississippi], you can go out and get lost but you’ll find yourself, ya know. You can really get in touch with yourself.

What is the most embarrassing thing your parents have ever done to you?
My dad was in love with this Volvo. He bought it before I was born. It’s so banged up and crashed up, and just so old. And he picked me up from school one day, and just came beeping so loud. Everybody saw the car and he’s like, “Come on.” I’m like, “No. Go around the block, go around the block.” And so he just waited there. I had to walk out to it.”

Be sure to catch Daniel, Adam, Hutch and the rest of the Zeke and Luther cast when the new season premieres tomorrow, March 15, at 7:30 p.m.
