My boobs keep getting bigger!

Sometimes I feel as though my chest is way bigger than other girls my age. I always need to go shopping for new bras because I outgrow some of the others, and it is embarrassing.

Is it normal that I am so much bigger than normal girls? What can I do to get over my embarrassment?

Hey buttercup, here’s the thing about girls and their bods: they’re like flowers—each one is different but every one is beautiful in its own way and may bloom at a different time. Different things happen at different times for girls, and it’s completely normal. What’s important is that you take care of yourself along the way and gain a li’l confidence.

Uniquely you

Your bod is 100% unique and special—it’s something to love, not get embarrassed about. Remember when it comes to what’s normal, there’s no one mold. Different genes bring out different traits in people, so don’t sweat it if your bod is growing a li’l faster than your classmates’. Be proud of the way you look and that those changes are a sign of you growing up. Make a point to highlight the things you love about yourself inside and out to fight that negativity and insecurity with positivity.

A perfect fit

It’s more important than ever that you talk to your mom and make sure you have the right gear. Get fitted for a bra: the right one will help that growing chest have the right support and stay healthy. Go for styles of clothes that detract from the bust instead of emphasizes it. Got awesome legs, for example? Get jeggings and shine the spotlight on them!

If you can’t say anything nice...

As for your embarrassment? Easy solution—don’t worry about your bod image. Try not to think about it in class and focus instead on other things that are more worthy of blushing over (cute guys, much?). Be sure to take care of yourself by eating healthy and exercising regularly. These activities will keep you smiling inside and out. But if your classmates are making comments? Ask them politely to stop. If you’ve confronted them about it and they’ve ignored what you said, alert a teacher. Bullying can’t stop if people stay silent.

Remember, girl, that everyone is insecure and going through this thing called puberty. With your bod growing, it’s important you work on exercises that boost your confidence (and don’t be afraid to help another girl too by giving her a compliment on her style or natural beauty), focus on greater things and get fitted for a bra to stay supported. Keep the optimism—sunshine—going strong. It’s how those flowers grow their best.

Infinite xoxo’s,
Alyssa B.
