Hangin' with Good Luck Charlie's Bridgit Mendler

Have you flipped through the pages of your latest issue of GL? If so, you’ve gotten a peek at how the super-talented 17-year-old Bridgit Mendler has quickly risen to the top. But did you know she has formed a “secret” sushi club with Good Luck Charlie co-star Jason Dolley? Or the fact that she’s really creeped by spiders?

We got a chance to chill with the Disney starlet in her ah-dorable dressing room (equipped with floral wall decals and a Nintendo Wii) and wanted to share some more fabulous tidbits with our fave gals. Check it out…

Landing the role of Teddy Duncan in Good Luck Charlie was a waiting game. “I was anxiously waiting by the phone for days and days at home. I went into the final audition and then they didn’t let me know for, like, a week or two about if I got it or not. You kind of start to lose your confidence the longer [they don’t get back to you]. By the end, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, will they ever call? Will I know?’ I was jumping up and down when I found out I got it.”

She has strong words of wisdom. “[The best piece of advice I have given my younger brother is] just to be yourself and not let people get to you. He’s in middle school right now, which is a time where you feel a lot of peer pressure, and he’s a really cool kid. He loves break dancing and he’s an individual. I don’t want him to lose that, so I think that’s really important advice at that time.”

Music is her must-have. “Every morning when I’m in the car going to work, we’ll blast music. It doesn’t have to be rap or hip-hop, it can be whatever’s on the radio and we just jam out. It’s a great way to start the day because sometimes, you know, if it’s gonna be a stressful day, it’s nice to loosen up and have fun.”

She’s on Team Jacob. “I read the Twilight books and watched the movie. I’m totally Team Jacob. I can’t deny it. You know what, I don’t care if Edward thought he was doing the right thing by leaving [Bella]. Jacob was there with her when she was not happy and in trouble and everything.”

She thinks her past co-star, Nick Jonas, is totally chill.
“He actually has a dry sense of humor and he’s really cool. I don’t know if this will surprise people, but when we were in the school room, he had a record player in there, and was playing records as we were doing our schoolwork, which I thought was pretty cool.”

She has arachnophobia. “[I’m scared of] spiders. No denying it. If I notice one and it’s really close to me, be prepared for a blood-curdling scream because I get really, really scared.”

She’s willing to share part of her special sushi song. “Me and a couple of friends went out to sushi one day and we wanted to have a club about sushi. We just wanted to all hang out and eat sushi together, and have it be a routine. Since I like writing songs, I decided to write a song about sushi. It has a little bit of a rap in it [which] Jason has helped me with. He chimes in a little bit.”

Want a piece of the rap? Check it out:
“Now you tell me how to stick the rice to the seaweed and make it taste nice.
It’s a hard-knock life.
Add wasabi sauce,
set your mouth on fire,
sip your drink for a while…
...We got a meal for real.
Where’s the shrimp?
I saw you steal.
Where’s the shrimp?
Where’s the shrimp?
And then Jason goes ‘Tempura’.”
