Keep Study-Stress at Bay

Feeling frazzled from the end of the year madness? Close the books for a couple and find some ways to refocus. Pushing yourself to a boiling point won’t do you any good, so take some time to keep your cool throughout the toughest of assignments.

The trap not to fall into? The endless procrastination loop. You know the drill: You head to your room with the intention of breaking the books. Instead, you open your laptop and IM with your BGF or pick an outfit for tomorrow or do anything other than work. Suddenly, the hour of studying has turned into a night-long activity.

A break every once in a while will actually help you work better cause you’ll have time to relax and reinvigorate yourself for the rest of your to-do list.
Here’s our best advice for keeping the study-stress at bay:

Take a walk around the block. If you’re trying to memorize important info for a quizzie, it’s not good to watch T.V. or to switch to a different topic because your brain will have a hard time remembering what you just studied. Avoiding extra interference right after an intake of info by, for example, taking a walk or jog outside will make it way easier to recall the facts you just memorized. Plus, you’ll be fitting in some exercise to your busy schedule.

Make a healthy snack. If you are hungry and studying, you’ll be grumpy and won’t study as well as you could. But beware of over-snacking: eating too much can make you feel sleepy. And don’t think chugging a Frappuccino will help ya focus. Too much caffeine can make you jittery (so not what you need).

Take a power nap. If you don’t get much sleep during the week (or even if you do), waking up in the early morning is not very pleasant. After a whole day of school and a few hours of studying, a quick 30-minute nap will allow you to rest your mind and clear your brain of any excess stress that you might have. That way, you can get back on-task with a ready-to-go attitude.
