News Update: Abby Sunderland Sailing Home

Hey girls! We appreciate how supportive you’ve been for courageous Abby Sunderland, the 16-year-old attempting to break the world record for the youngest person to sail solo around the globe, and wanted to keep you updated on her mission!

It seems that Abby will not be able to finish her journey, as the mast on her sailboat has broken in result of the extremely high winds and waves she battled (alone!). Abby is currently safe having been rescued by a French fishing vessel, and is on her way to be reunited with her family. Unfortunately, Abby had to leave behind her beloved sailboat, Wild Eyes.

All of us at GL are so proud of Abby’s accomplishments and recognize that her journey was no small feat. We can’t wait to find out what she’ll take on next!

To learn more about Abby’s incredible mission to circumnavigate the globe, check out our J/J '10 issue for an in-depth feature, and look out for more Abby news when A/S ’10 hits the stands on July 13th!
