15 minutes with...The Ready Set

At 16, Jordan Witzigreuter was blasting Fall Out Boy’s music in his Fort Wayne, IN basement. Today, the timid, talented and totally hot 20-year-old is The Ready Set, an alternative/pop/ electronica solo artist being promoted by FOB bassist Pete Wentz. And he’s just released his debut album I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming.

His ridiculously catchy first single, “Love Like Woe,” reminds us of Owl City and is definitely worth downloading to your pool party playlist. Here, the sweet, shaggy-haired singer/songwriter reveals the reason he picked the name, what he rocks out to, and who he’d cast as his video co-star. There might be a “love story” in the making if she’ll “just say yes”…

GL: How did the name, The Ready Set, come about? Why not just use your own name?
Jordan: My last name is literally impossible for anyone to pronounce. Two people have gotten it right my entire life. That would be kinda difficult, especially on a T-shirt. When I started this, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. It was right at the end of high school, and then, I decided to do the music thing. To me, the name means being able to put all your worries and ambitions behind you, doing what you want to do, and just living for yourself.

What’s on your iPod’s “most played” list?
My favorite band is Copeland. I think they’re breaking up, so that’s a bummer. And I have been listening to the band, Brighten, a lot. It’s usually bands that we tour with that I end up listening to when I’m home. A lot of times when I’m driving in my car, I like to listen to pop radio. I love the song “Bulletproof” by LaRoux. It’s awesome!

Who would you cast as your female co-star in a music video?
Taylor Swift! She’s like five feet taller than me—I’m pretty short. I’ve heard that she’s very nice, so I’m gonna go with her.

On Facebook, you’re a fan of Reese’s and Dairy Queen. Why’s that?
I’m a big fan of the combination of chocolate and peanut butter in a bite-sized cup. And I love Dairy Queen Blizzards. Anything with Oreo and vanilla ice cream is great to me!

What do you own way too many of?
I own way too many sweatshirts! I probably have way too many clothes in general. I’m kinda a clothes horse. And I have way too many shoes too!

What can a girl do to make you say, “Woe”?
The most important thing is don’t be too forward and don’t be too not forward. Just be yourself, don’t try to impress me, just be real. Someone who is too pushy and too in-your-face is a total turnoff. I’ve always been attracted to the more reserved people, but not someone who’s silent.

What are your tour bus musts?
My phone and a Broadband card for my computer are vital to me. I would like the bus to be stocked with clementines. They’re tasty and pretty much my favorite fruit. They’re pretty rockin’! I know, it’s so rock ’n’ roll of me to want something like that.

Be sure to check out I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming and let us know your favorite track.

Are you a Ready Set fan? Blog about it, babes.
