Boys make me self-conscious!

I'm 13 and almost all my guy friends are so much skinnier than me! They eat so much more than me, too. I know they play a lot of sports, but I'm athletic myself. I also have a low metabolism, but do all guys have high metabolisms?

First of all, every body is different. Some have fast metabolisms, and some have really slow ones. Over time, everyone’s will change, but boys and girls’ bodies can do so at different paces.

In general, girls hit puberty earlier than guys. We grow more gradually (which is why we might be taller than them for a while) and then guys have a big growth spurt to catch up. Because of that, they eat a lot for their bodies to produce enough energy for them to grow and function throughout the day.

Sure, this becomes difficult for us girls who hang out with them and, yea, it’s not fair that they can eat so much and stay so thin. But the most important thing is to stay true to yourself. Not hungry? Don’t force yourself to chomp on those chili cheese fries just to keep up with the gang. As you get older, you’ll start to see guys’ appetites lessen, with the pounds piling on much easier.

Be confident in yourself, chica. Comparing yourself to boys is a silly waste of time. Embrace your fab self, no matter the size and shape because, as you know, no two bods are exactly alike. Do us a favor: Walk up to that mirror today, smile, and quickly mouth a believable “I feel great!”
