Play with a Pair of Kings

Funny guys Mitchel Musso (19) and Doc Shaw (18) team up for a new live-action comedy series Pair of Kings on Disney XD, premiering Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Are you excited?!

Together, they play fraternal twins Brady and Boomer who, up until now, lead a normal teenage life with their aunt and uncle in Chicago. Yet things take a turn for hilarity when they soon discover they’re successors to the throne of Kinkow, forcing them to relocate to the kooky island filled with zany customs and superstitions.

The bros learn how to work with each other, adjusting to island life with the help of their royal guard, Mason, his adorable daughter, Mikayla, and a disgruntled Lanny who wants nothing more than to steal their throne.

We hung out with the cast on the show’s L.A. set and got them to spill their favorite card games (OK, we even played a round or two). Grab your crew and play along with these simple instructions, then be sure to tune in to the show’s premiere!

Blackjack/21
Why Mitchel Musso (Brady) likes it: “It’s just a cool game. It’s [great] if you’re playing with a bunch of friends [because] it’s easy to play.”
Why Doc Shaw (Boomer) plays: “I don’t play too many card games, but 21 is the easiest, fastest game. And everybody can play.”

Objective: To beat the dealer's hand without exceeding a count of 21.
Quick Tips: King, queen, jack and 10 cards are always worth 10 points each; an ace can be either 11 points or 1; the other cards are worth their face value.
Note: Everyone plays against the dealer, not one another.
1. Deal two cards to each player and two cards to yourself (“the dealer”).
2. The dealer's second card is dealt face-up for all players to see. If the dealer has a "Blackjack" (an ace and a 10 or face card), he will turn it over and automatically wins—unless a player also has a Blackjack, in which case it's a tie.
3. Starting with the player on the dealer's left, each player has the choice of standing (not drawing any more cards) or being dealt additional cards. Dealing continues with that player until the player stands or "busts" (gets a card count that totals more than 21).
4. After all players have made their decisions (or busted), the dealer draws additional cards to reach a total of 17 or higher (when they must automatically stop), or bust. The dealer doesn’t bust? All remaining players’ hands with a higher card total win. Those with a lower card total lose.

13
Why Ryan Ochoa (Lanny) loves it: “That’s the best family game. It takes a long time [but] it’s one of my favorites.”

Objective: To get rid of your cards first, using various combinations.
Quick Tips: Ranking order of cards from highest to lowest is: 2, A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 and 3; ranking order of suits from highest to lowest are: hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades; ranking order of combinations from highest to lowest are: three pairs, run of three or more, four of a kind, three of a kind, pair and single.
Playing Combos: Single (a single played card), pair (a combination of exactly 2 cards of equal numerical value but don’t need to be of the same color), triple (a combination of exactly three cards of equal numerical value, which can only be defeated by a triple of a higher value and same suits), run (a combo of at least four cards that are in a consecutive numerical sequence).
1. Deal out the deck of cards until everyone has 13 total.
2. The person with the 3 of spades or the lowest card begins the game and decides which direction to play.
3. Each play must be of greater value than the previous card or combination of cards (i.e. if you play a pair of sixes, the next player needs to play a pair of sevens or another combination of higher ranking). You don’t have that? You can pass, but that means you can’t play anymore until the remaining players pass.
4. The first person to get rid of all 13 cards is declared the winner.
5. Keep playing until only one player still has cards in his or her hands.

Go-Fish
Why Kelsey Chow (Mikayla) digs It: “My dad loves Bridge, which he taught me once, but I haven’t played in a while so I’m kind of bad, [which is why] I’m going to stick with Go Fish. It’s awesome.”

Play Now!
Objective: To collect the most sets of four.
Quick Tips: It’s best to play with 3-6 players.
1. Deal five cards to each player, with the remaining cards placed face down in a draw pile.
2. Decide who wants to go first.
3. The player whose turn it is asks another player for their cards of a particular rank (ie “Do you have any sevens?”) Note: You can’t ask for a rank of something you’re not already holding.
4. The one who was asked must hand over all cards of that rank if they have any. And the game continues with the person on the current player’s left.
5. If the person asked doesn’t have any cards of the questioned rank, they say, “Go Fish” and the asking player must draw a card from the pile, and the turn goes over to the person who was asked.
6. When one person has four of the same cards of a given rank, they form a “book” and place them face up on the table.
7. You run out of cards and the game’s still going? You can pull cards from the draw pile.
8. The game ends when all of the cards have been used and all books have been obtained. Whoever has the most books wins.
