Psst: The Secrets to Killer Body Confidence!

Katherine Schwarzenegger (aka, the daughter of Arnold and the first daughter of California) just wrote an amazing book showing girls how to feel flat-out fab about their bodies (and, oh yeah, everything else). This chica is only 20-years-old, but is sooo spot-on with her advice. She shared a couple sweet secrets with us, but you gotta check out her book Rock What You’ve Got to get the full scoop.

Look on the Bright Side
“My dad always told me to focus on the things that are positive, whether it’s school, community service or family,” Katherine told us. “Focus on what you’re good at. We often think, ‘I need to be better at this or that.’ We make ourselves more upset. For girls, they really need to focus on all the amazing things they have in their lives and focus on how good they really have it.” Take a couple secs today to appreciate all you’ve been given.

Stay Body (and Food) Positive
It’s sad, but true: some girls get pressure from people in their families to be thin or to look a certain way. What’s even harder is if your mom or someone close to you is struggling an eating disorder or body image probs. “Do whatever you can do to stop the cycle,” Katherine says. “It’s all passed down and we see what are our moms are doing and how they treat their bodies and it tells us how to think of our bodies.” Be proud of who you are and how you look and make healthy (not necessarily “perfect”) food choices.

Spend Quality Time with Your Mom
And that doesn’t just mean going shopping. “Talking to your mom is something I want girls to do,” she says. “It will build a great relationship.” Share what went on in school or sports and ask her for help when you’re struggling with a prob. That way, if something serious comes up, you’ll have a great support system in place. And you’ll feel comfortable sharing what’s really going on. Mom’s outta the picture? Bond with an aunt or your BFF’s mom.

Thanks, Katherine, for sharing your words of wisdom. Rock What You’ve Got is in stores now!
