Nightmare

Here's a poem written by Elizabeth T., a GL reader, for our 13 Days of Halloween Ghost Story Contest. Let us know what you think and be sure to check each day for another ghastly tale!
The green vine creeps up your back

A shiver down your spine
The leaves; they start to curl
As you lose your mind

The scream is almost silent
There’s no one there to hear
No people are around you
As you drown in your own fear

Your mind; it dreams up pictures
Oh how they are horrific
They are of certain people
And much too much specific

A tear slides down your cheek
But you can’t feel it there
The room’s completely empty
Except for one lone chair

The darkness keeps on going
You wonder if it ends
Strange faces in the dark
Here you have no friends

You melt into the chair
Alone in this dark cave
Fear eats you alive
Until there’s nothing left to save

Your weary body tires
As the dark fades into light
The nightmare does not end
You’re too weak to fight

The monsters keep on coming
Strange people still appear
You realize it’s real life
You can’t escape this fear
