Calling all carolers! Host a pitch-perfect party

Not into snow but tired of feeling stuck indoors? Form an impromptu group of carolers! It’s time to bundle out and belt out your favorite festive anthems.

Get ready

Because many carols are so well known, you’re carolers likely won’t need much practice. You can call ‘em up on the spur of the moment, or send out music note-shaped invites detailing the specifics of your mission.

Make songbooks

Want to get fancy? Try printing off the lyrics of the songs you want to sing, then stapling them between the pages of red and green construction paper. The songbooks will give your group a classic, cohesive look…and help everyone sing the right verse!

Plan your route

If you’re caroling around your neighborhood—you probably won’t need to go door to door to garner an audience—plan your route strategically. If fellow carolers or friends of the family live nearby, set up periodic warm-up stops so you can thaw your rosy noses and sip some hot apple cider.

Set your song list

When it comes to holiday songs, you’ve got a lot of choices. Before you pick certain songs, consider the group of people who will be singing them. If some carolers won’t be enthusiastic about singing more religious Christmas songs, keep it general and seasonal with classics such as “Let It Snow,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Deck the Halls,” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”

For those that don’t mind a more secular Christmas playlist, try “The Christmas Song,” “Santa Clause Is Coming to Town,” “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”

And if you want to go full-tilt traditional, try these more religious favorites: “Silent Night,” “Joy to the World,” “Away in a Manger,” and “The First Noel.”

Spread the good cheer

Not looking forward to marching around in the cold? Avoid frostbite by calling up a local nursing home or hospital and arrange a time when you could bring your merry band of carolers in for a sing-a-long. You’ll lift the spirits of those you sing to, and recall memories of happy holidays past.
