Break up, then make up? Here's how to break the cycle

My boyfriend and I go out for a couple weeks, and then he dumps me. Two weeks later, I’m almost over him when he calls, says he misses me, and we get back together for another couple weeks. Then it starts all over again. How can I get him to make up his mind?

Bill:  Actually, it sounds like maybe he has made up his mind. He wants to date you exclusively for two-week stretches and test the waters with someone else, then go back to you. Good deal for him, not so great for you.

You have choices: Play the long-suffering woman standing by her man; test the waters with someone new while he’s doing the same thing, and then get back together when you’re both ready; or dump him and move on with your life. The last option may seem the obvious way to go, but it’s not always easy to do.

Dave: I’d never argue that men are not pigs. What I would argue is that we only take our swine-like behavior as far as women we care about let us. As soon as someone who matters takes exception, we stop acting like the low-life species we are. If not, then perhaps we don’t care as much about our mate as she’d like to think, and the superior sex should figure it out. Pronto.
