Squash sticky V-Day sitches

We’ve all been there: You’re having a blast at your class’ annual Valentine’s Day party…until that girl you barely know gave you a cute card and your fave candy. You totally didn’t see that one coming, and now you feel guilty ‘cause you don’t have anything to give her in return.

No worries, sweetheart. We’ve got 5 dos and don’ts to help you master sticky V-Day sitches. Just call us cupid!

DO be prepared. If you’re heading to a Valentine’s Day party, come with a Valentine for everyone. That way, no one will feel left out, forgotten or simply ignored. Bonus? You won’t have to worry about being gifted without being able to give something in return.

DON’T lie. “OMG, I got you something but I totally left it at home” isn’t a very convincing cover, so please, don’t try it.

DO turn on the charm. Keep a cool head and go totally genuine. Give the surprise prezzie-giver a dazzling smile and thank her sincerely, then strike up a conversation that goes beyond small talk. Invite her over to sit with your crew and find out who she really is. Maybe you’ll even make a new friend.

DON’T be mean. It doesn’t matter if you like the girl (or guy) a little, a lot or not at all. Giving you a Valentine is a friendly gesture, so accept it with a smile, not a smirk, guffaw or gossip.

DO have a plan B. Stash a few blank V-Day cards in your locker, just in case. If you get a gift you weren’t expecting, thank the giver and be sure to slide your own goody into their locker, backpack or desk later that day.
