Women Can Be: An original poem

Hey babes! In honor of Women’s History Month, GL reader Olivia C. submitted this fab poem all about women. Tell us what ya think in the comments!

Women Can Be

Women can be the color pink,
Or they can be any color they choose.
The dresses on the bathroom doors,
Or the jeans hanging in Levi’s windows.
The cheerleaders on the sidelines,
Or the players on the field.
The damsels in distress,
Or the saviors of the men they love.
The Barbies left on the bedroom floor,
Or the toy trucks crashing into one another.
The abandoned dollhouses,
Or the used amusement park rides.
The neon makeup in the closet,
Or the smiling faces on the street.
The magazines on the rack,
Or the books in the classics section.
The swingsets on the playground,
Or the biggest slides there.
The flowers that they yearn for,
Or the bees that are the sting of rejection.
The long flowing mane,
Or the short spiked hair.
The everlasting dreamer,
Or the effervescent doer.
The faces of teen pregnancy,
Or the heroines of favorite books.
The image that society had planned for them,
Or the painting they crafted with their own skilled hands.
