Score instant inspiration

As writers, editors and artists, the staff of Girls’ Life is always on the prowl for fresh sources of inspiration. And boy, do we find it everywhere! We rip photos out of high fashion mags, post funny postcard graphics on our bulletin boards and scribble down awesome sayings we don’t want to forget. Now, we’re sharing those bits that delight us to no end with you. Here are my top-3 sources of inspiration for the week…

Scripps National Spelling Bee winner Sukanya Roy

If you visit GL’s Facebook page, you’ve probably noticed that I was tuned in to ESPN last night to watch the final rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Those kids spelled for hours, and I’m not embarrassed to admit that I recognized maybe 1 in every 10 words.

After nearly two-dozen rounds, Indian-American Sukanya Roy came out on top. This was the 14-year-old’s third and final trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Her winning word? “Cymotrichous,” a Greek-derived adjective meaning having wavy hair.

The zipped lips of Mr. Justin Timberlake

In an interview with Vanity Fair, he talked a bit about ex-girlfriend Jessica Biel…just long enough to say that she was the most significant person in his life, and that he was going to protect her and their relationship by not sharing any more deets.

I don’t know about you, but in the age of Facebook and social media over-shares, privacy is a little something I’m starting to value more than ever. I’m raising my water bottle to Justin and his lack of loose lips. Let’s hope this is the start of a trend, huh?

Checking out other folks’ signature looks

The Sartorialist is so well known now that he has a coffee-table book, but this fashion photog isn’t exactly letting fame going to his head. He’s doing the same thing he did way back in 2005: Hitting the streets to snap shots of ordinary people going about their lives…in style. When I’m looking for a new way to wear an Oxford shirt or pencil skirt, I turn to him and his iconic pics for inspiration.
