5 sun safety rules to remember

It’s not officially summer (yet), but that doesn’t mean we’re staying cooped up in doors. It’s time to hit the pools, the parks and the beaches in full force, but before you start a splash war with your sweeties, take the time to gear up right and protect your bod against the sun’s harmful rays. In honor of Sun Safety Week, which kicks off today, Sunday, June 5, we asked GL’s editors for their best fun-in-the-sun tips.

“At the beach, put on some SPF even if it's cloudy or you're under an umbrella. Trust me: You will get burned. I learned that the hard way.” – Karmen, online contributing editor

“I’m always the girl on the beach who’s buried under layers of SPF, sun-reflective clothing and sunglasses. After years of scorching my fair skin, I’ve learned that I don’t need a tan to look great—and thank goodness, too, because I go straight from white to red!” – Brittany T., online editorial assistant

“I sport big sunglasses to cover the entire area around my eyes—especially the circles underneath them. Squinting leads to wrinkles!” – Jessica D., fashion and beauty assistant

“I try to jog early in the day in the summer (sometimes at 6 or 7in the morning!). It's the coolest outside, and it's before the sun gets too rough.” – Alyssa B., contributing writer

“The same as everyone's: SPF. SPF. And more SPF.” – Karen B., founding editor
