As you might already know, the ah-dorable Nick Jonas is teaming up with Quaker Chewy Granola Bars for its first ever Quaker Chewy Superstar Search, where parents and legal guardians can submit a vid of their young star (aged 8-14) belting it out to one of four pre-selected tunes for a shot at superstardom.

With a $5,000 cash prize, song produced by Nick Jonas, online music video and contract with Jonas Group Management all at stake, we figured this cutie, who will help narrow the comp down to five finalists, might have a few tips for the budding stars. So we caught up with Nick and had him spill some of the biggest pointers he swears by. Read ’em and get ready to sing your hearts out. The competition kicks off tomorrow, June 9!

Warm up your voice. “Everyone’s gotta find that vocal warm-up that will work for them. There are videos online of things people can try and see what works for their voice.”

Don’t be afraid to put your own spin on a song. “I think someone who can take one of the songs and make it their own is really going to stand out to me [in this competition]. We’re looking for someone who has a unique voice and has music they want to share with the world.”

Practice at home by singing with your ’rents…to a slew of different tunes. “Any time I’m preparing for anything, it’s all about practicing. People like The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Carole King, Jackson 5, were our go-to songs in the car when we were driving.”

Clear your head. “To someone who struggles with stage fright, if you know that you’re doing what you love, anything’s possible and you won’t be intimidated. It’s all about knowing what you’re passionate about.”

Dress the part…without buying new clothes. “Anything in your closet can make you feel like a superstar. It’s all in how you wear it. For me, I usually feel ready to rock whenever I put on a suit.”

Don’t forget the “small” people when you make it big. “One of the greatest tips we were given at a young age is live like you’re at the bottom, even if you’re at the top. Stay humble, keep the right attitude and know that you have to work your hardest to reach your goals.”
