Have your best (3 day!) weekend ever

All too often, the weekend flies by and we're left thinking, where did the time go?  With a little bit of planning, you can make sure to take advantage of your long weekend.  When someone at school on Tuesday asks what you did over the 3-day break, you can answer proudly: I did something awesome!  To best determine your route to doing something awesome this weekend, first figure out what it is you want.  Do you want to be productive, outdoorsy, adventurous, bringin' in the bucks, or creative?  Get inspired with our ideas and prepare yourself for your best weekend ever.

This weekend, I want to be...

Productive

Trying to balance schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and a social life?  Whew, it's exhausting just thinking about it.  To make the most of your weekend, get organized and plan out what you want to do and when you'll make time to do it.  Intermix fun activities with homework.  Make this weekend all about playing catch-up, both with friends and with the books.  Fun stuff ideas: host a movie night with a group of friends, meet your BFF for hot cocoa, celebrate MLK Day on Monday.

Outdoorsy

Need some fresh air and a change of scenery?  Grab some friends and/or fam and venture out into the wilderness, it's camping time!  If you've never been camping before or you don't know an outdoorsy person that can lead the expedition, go on a day hike instead.  Pack a lunch, wear layers and supportive shoes and get out there.  Your bod will love the exercise and your mind will appreciate the chance to take in some natural beauty.

Adventurous

Don't be bored this weekend.  Decide to be a tourist in your hometown!  Check out any museums you've never visited before, explore local parks, or see if there's live music playing.  Visit the local tourism office and see what they suggest.  If you live in a city, there are probs a bazillion opportunities for fun things to do.  If you live in a smaller town, you might want to check out other nearby towns and what they have to offer after you've explored your own turf.  Bring some buds along for the ride and take lots of pics, in true tourist fashion!

Bringin' in the bucks

Ka-ching, ka-ching!  Savin' up to buy something special?  Spread the word that you're free to babysit this weekend.  Do your parents have any co-workers with kids?  How about your adorbs next door neighbors?  Go prepared with some fun activities and ideas.  Bring some crafty supplies or a puzzle or a game.  If you're enthusiastic about whatever it is you're doing, it's way more likely that the kids you're babysitting will be excited too.  Makin' money and having a good time with some little friends?  Sounds like a win-win.

Creative

Is the daily grind preventing you from being your best, creative self?  Well then, use this 3-day weekend to work on a project that inspires you.  Write a short story and enter that writing contest you keep hearing about, compose a song, makeover your room, or perfect the chocolate chip and cream cheese filled cupcake.  Identify something you'd like to work on before Tuesday.  Did you give it your best effort?  Mission accomplished.
