Dude, get a clue! The real reason he won't move on
This guy asked me out, and I turned
him down. In person, he says he’s OK with it. But he e-mails me about why I
won’t go out with him. How can I tell him to get over it?
Bill: Apparently, his ego is damaged, so he’s having trouble dealing with the fact that you don’t want to go out with him. You could go the sneaky, avoid-him route and change your e-mail address. But unless he’s harassing you, that’s not cool. Your best bet is to set him straight. E-mail him, explaining that you want to keep things on a friendship-only basis. Hopefully, he’ll get the message loud and clear, and you can stay pals.
Dave: Bill’s right. But once
you’ve clearly stated you’re not interested in going out, if he continues to
bug you, that is not only annoying—it’s disrespectful. Yes, his ego has taken a
bruising but, if the harassment continues, don’t respond to his e-mails, and
get a parent to help you block him from contacting you.
