Distractions, Distractions

Next time the kiddies are actin' up, don't yell! Handling the kids' anger with anger of your own only shows them that screaming/yelling is OK and eggs them on. When you're faced with bad-tempered tots, stay calm. Instead of yelling, do something to distract 'em.

If it's a major meltdown, suggest (in a super calm voice) that you do a fun activity instead. Ask the kid to bake up a fave treat, do a cool craft or challenge him to a game of soccer (or another fave sport!). This way, the kid will have an outlet to expend their anger, have fun AND they'll calm down. Or if they're fighting with each other, separate them into diff rooms and put on a fave vid for each of 'em. Once they've both calmed down, bring 'em back together with something fun.
