Make face time. If you can choose your seat in class, sit somewhere so that you’re in his line of sight. Be conscious of your facial expressions and always try to look cute, even when you're thinking hard! Every once in a while glance up and flash a smile in his direction. If you notice him smiling or looking back at ya, it's time to strike up a convo. Ask him for a pencil, what he thought about last night's HW or how he's studying for the next test!
