HOW TO: Perfect Eyebrows

It's all about the brows! Grooming your eyebrows can be a major pain in the bum. Not to mention as complicated and as difficult as rocket science. Well, er...not that hard, but pretty close! Scope below to get amazing ways and tips to keep your brows in shape!

Anastasia Stencils, $20

Finding the right shape for your face:

Round/Square: A high angled brow is a great way to balance and add dimension to your face.

Heart/Diamond: Accent your delicate face shape with a rounded brow.
Long/Oval: Keep your brows flat. High arches will make your face look longer.

Grab your eyeliner or any pencil handy and place it vertically next to your nose. Wherever the pencil falls is where your eyebrow should begin. Without moving the bottom of the pencil, move the tip to the outer corner of your eye (creating a diagonal line). This is where your eyebrow should end.

Tweezerman, $25

Tweezing:

Before you begin, use white eyeliner to draw out the shape that you want. These lines will be your guide while plucking. Always pluck your eyebrows in well-lit spaces. It’s always best to work in natural sunlight—it allows you to see the most hair. Tweeze in the direction that your hair naturally grows. Start from your inner eye and work your way out. Avoid plucking above your brow line. To reduce pain, try tweezing after a warm shower. The steam will open up your pores.

Tip: Those super scary mirrors that magnify your face times a zillion are great for tweezing.

In the event that over-plucking occurs, put down your tweezers immediately. It doesn’t matter if they are lopsided, it doesn’t matter if you look like Cruella de Vil, STOP! Hand the tweezers over to your mama and have her lock it up till your brows grow back. Totally desperate? Pick up an eyebrow enhancer to boost hair growth.

Trimming:

After you’ve created your perfect arch, take an eyebrow brush and brush your hairs upward. Don’t have an eyebrow brush? A toothbrush works just as well! Using eyebrow scissors, trim the longer hairs. Trim only a little at a time. You can always go back and cut more, but ya can’t fix what is already gone.

Finishing:

Once all is said and done, use an eyebrow pencil or powder to fill in sparse/bald spots. When choosing an eyebrow pencil/powder, pick one that is two shades lighter than your current hair color. Have platinum blond hair? Choose a color that is two shades darker. Keep your strokes light. You want your brows to look as natural as possible. Top it all off with a clear eyebrow gel. It will hold everything in place to give you perfect eyebrows to last and last!

Tip: Soften dark brow color with a sweep of loose powder.

Totally lost? Go to a professional salon to get your eyebrows groomed. Once they give you the perfect shape, it’ll be super easy for you to maintain them.
