Hair that’s Smooth

So with the temperature getting slightly warmer and humidity rising, it won't be so easy to tame those locks. The dreaded frizz (gasp!) will prob begin to set in. So what can a girl do to get rid of killer flyaways? Here are our best-ever tips for staying frizz free!

Tip #1 Add moisture!

Dry hair causes frizziness, so use a shampoo and conditioner that add moisture back. Rinse your hair with cold water. While you’re still in the shower, detangle hair using a wide-tooth comb. Combing your hair when it's already started drying can lead to breakage, and therefore, frizz.

Tip #2 Put down the blow-dryer

Invest in a leave-in conditioner and avoid blow-drying. It will dry out your hair, creating frizz. You're best bet is to let your hair air-dry. Pat it dry with a towel when you get out of the shower but don't rub. If you must use a blow dryer, wait until your hair is almost air dried and use it only for a few minutes.

Tip #3 Maintain, maintain, maintain

If your frizz is way outta control, consider washing your hair every other day. Don’t forget to deep condition once a month (you can get a deep conditioning mask at the drugstore). This will keep your hair extra healthy and moisturized.

A pretty party pony

Let's face it, it's getting a little too hot to have all those strands draped across your shoulders and down your back. Don’t worry, your pony doesn’t have to be a snooze. We’ve got a new spin to make it amazing!
What you'll need:

-hair spray
-wide-barreled curling iron
-hair elastic
-bobby pins

What you'll do:

Start with dry hair. Part your hair as you usually would (it looks cute done down the middle or to either side) and begin curling the ends of your hair just to give it a little bouncy wave. Spray your hair with a light mist of hair spray to help hold the curl

Keeping your part and without flipping your hair over, pull all your tresses into a pony at about the middle of the back of your head. Secure it with a hair tie. Pull out your bangs or just some small sections of hair to frame your face.

Take a small section of the hair from the bottom of your pony tail. Opt to either braid it or leave it be. Wrap the braid or piece of hair around the hair tie. Use bobby pins to secure the braid or piece.

A perfectly easy updo

School's almost over and you know what that means... end of school year dances! Whether it's kinda casual or super dressy, you can always rock a cute updo.

What you'll need:

-hair ties
-bobby pins
-hair spray
-cute flower or embellished pin

What you'll do:

Wash your hair like you normally would. When you get out of the shower, while your hair is still wet, separate your mane into four to six sections.  Braid each section tightly. Continue until you get as close to the ends of your hair as possible. Tie each of them off with a hair tie. Let your hair air dry, or help it along by hitting it with the blow dryer on low to medium power.

When hair is dry, gently unravel the braids and loosen your hair with your hands. Spray your tresses with a light mist of hair spray.

Starting at your part and moving along your hairline, loosely begin twisting your hair back and around. Pull in more hair as you go. Leave some strands out around your face. When you get to just behind your ear, secure the twist with bobby pins. Repeat on the other side of your part.

Loosely grab the hair that is still down in one hand. Use your fingers to lightly twist it and then coil it around itself against the back of your head. Pin it in place using bobby pins. Lightly spray hair spray over your entire head. Decide where you'd like your flower or pin – on the side of your head or the back. Use bobby pins to secure it wherever you choose. Viola!

A cute new cut
So it's spring (almost summer) and you're feeling like going with the theme of new beginnings and getting a new 'do. But what's in style right now? No worries – GL’s got the scoop on the three best cuts for spring!

The Pixie

Want an extreme change? Try a pixie crop. This cut is bold, fun, and super easy to style. Tell your stylist you want it to be slightly longer on top. If you have a round face, you may want to ask about keeping a longer bang in the front. In the end, your stylist will know what's best for you. This one is definitely for someone who wants to make a statement and play up naturally beautiful facial features.

The Bob

You don't want something too drastic, but not too subtle either. The bob is the way to go. Go for a long bob (a “lob,” it’ll graze your shoulders), or make it about chin length. Want it to be super chic? Ask for blunt ends that frame your face. a versatile cut you can run with. Way cute and timeless – what more could a girl ask for?

The Long Layers

If you're not quite ready to take the plunge and go for a completely different ’do, long layers just might do the trick. It's a subtle change that's full of glam. Tell your stylist you'd like long layers – they’ll give hair that’s past the shoulders plenty of movement. Play up your pretty tresses by using a wide-barreled curling iron to create loose waves. It's super summery and effortlessly feminine.
