My Own Worst Enemy

I really love photography, but my problem is that I never think very highly of my pictures (and everyone tells me they’re great). It frustrates me that I don’t have a high self-esteem. I’m not the most outgoing person ever, but I have really great friends. How can I boost my self-esteem and believe what people tell me?

Hey girlie!

I totally know how you feel. It’s so hard for me to take a compliment because it’s difficult for me to see the positive in the things I do. Low self-esteem is like the common cold; it’s an issue that everyone has had AT LEAST once. Sometimes it may feel like you just can’t get rid of it! Don’t fret gal, there are so many ways you can boost your self-esteem, and be the confident chica that everyone knows you can be!

When it comes to judging your work, everyone is their own worst critic. It’s time to stop focusing on the negatives, and see all the positive aspects of your pictures. In order to change your self-esteem, you have to change your entire way of thinking. Confidence is key! Instead of nitpicking the negatives, be kind and encouraging to yourself. After taking a photograph, make a list, which focuses on all the positive aspects of your photo. You will find that these encouraging thoughts will help you achieve the confidence you need to feel good about your work.

Also, this low self-esteem when it comes to your pics can be linked to the way you are viewing yourself. Step back for a sec, girlfriend, its time for you to get an accurate view of your self-image. Changing the way you think about yourself and your life is essential to boost your self-esteem. Look in the mirror for 20 mins and list every positive thing about yourself. Not necessarily physical, although it doesn’t hurt to point out those lushes lashes, and perfect smile. Maybe you’ll recognize that you’re the only one of your friends who has these awesome photography skills. Or, you could focus on the fact that you have an amazing BFF. You're great!

Having low self-esteem is an issue that every one faces at some point. The important thing is that you recognized it. So now you can stomp on those negative feelings and replace them with more positive, realistic beliefs. Be the self-confident girlie we all know you can be! Good luck chica!
