Summer Clock

In the heat I close my eyes,
Hearing the buzzing of the flies,
The air lies heavy on my tongue, so sweet,
I lower my head as a sign of defeat.

The clock keeps ticking.
tick, tock, tick, tock…
Tick, tock goes the clock.

Every second rings loud in my ear,
This horrible sound I cannot bear,
What could cause me to anguish so,
To make me rock in my seat, to and fro?

Two more months!
It seems so long.
Two more months!
It must be wrong.

RING! the bell screams,
and I'm out in a flash,
Running out of the room,
A mad dash.

It's not summer yet,
Not by a long shot,
But it is in my mind,
And in every thought.
The clock keeps ticking.
tick, tock, tick, tock…
Tick, tock goes the clock.
