2009 Summer Fearless Tour: I met Taylor Swift!

Morphing stage sets, killer costumes, an awesome band, and of course outstanding vocal performances made Taylor Swift’s Fearless tour stop at the Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland a hit.

Despite the questionable forecast predicting thunderstorms, Taylor shined bright. Eagerly, 17,000 screaming fans waited for Taylor to take the stage. After stellar opening performances from Gloriana and Kellie Pickler, the crowd grew more and more excited each minute.

Dressed in full marching band apparel, Taylor kicked off the show with “You Belong With Me.” Instantly the crowd was on their feet. As Taylor seamlessly changed from her “uniform” to a glitzy, glamorous, black ensemble to perform—“Our Song,” the fans went wild. The rest of the night was infused with numerous wardrobe changes (Taylor of course rocked her signature cowboy boots), video clips that gave the crowd a glimpse of Taylor’s clever sense of humor, and of course, amazing vocal and dance performances.

Taylor proved her musical expertise by playing an array of musical instruments, including acoustic guitar, piano and even drumming on old rusty barrels. My personal favorites were “Fearless,” “Love Story” and “You’re Not Sorry”. The last song “Should’ve Said No” was especially memorable as rain poured from the rafters. I sang along to every song and by the end of the night my voice was hoarse.

That's me (on the right) with my friend!

I was also fortunate enough to meet Taylor before the show. I was so nervous to meet this Platinum country singer whose pictures frequent the tabloids, however, I was SO shocked when I discovered how “normal” and down-to-earth she was. Reaching out to me with a big hug, Taylor greeted me by saying “I’m so excited you’re here! Thank you so much for coming!” She then quickly commented on my hair (I too have curly Taylor-esque hair) and said, “I love your hair! Us curly girls need to stick together.”

Taylor is not only talented, but also extremely friendly. Not afraid to gab about hair products or pre-show jitters, Taylor is so surprisingly real! After chatting and getting a pic and autograph, I instantly wished we could be BFF.

The entire night was unforgettable and an experience I’ll always remember. Without a doubt Taylor’s concert will be embedded in my mind “Forever and Always.”
