Accessories + Entrepreneurs = Awesome!

Ever take down your ponytail to try to style it, only to find a that tell-tale dent in your tresses? Ugh. So frustrating!

Emily Matson and Julianne Goldmark, both eighth graders from Cali, had the same problem, along with a number of other complaints about typical hair ties. So the pair took matters into their own hands.

Together they created EmiJay, a totally fun hair accessory line. Their products are colorful and look more like stylish ribbons than boring hair ties. Plus, they do double duty as cool bracelets! And they’re super affordable – only $11 for eight hair ties. These entrepreneurial girls are expanding their business, too. “We are planning on releasing a collection of hair accessories (such as headbands and hair clips) this fall along with new fall and winter colors of our classic hair ties,” says Emily and Julianne. Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Demi Lovato, and Heidi Klum have all become EmiJay customers. Impressive, ladies!

But these girlies aren’t just hair accessory designers, they’re also doing their part for charity. A portion of EmiJay’s profits go to Locks of Love, an organization which provides hairpieces to children who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss. What a perf partnership! “Ever since we started EmiJay, we knew we wanted to incorporate a charity with our product. We thought that Locks of Love would be perfect to associate with our company,” the girls add.

EmiJay’s products are sold on their website as well as in a few boutiques and salons in Southern Cali and one in Virginia. And the pair doesn't plan on stopping anytime soon. “We’ve had our company for almost a year now and would love to keep going and expanding our collection of accessories,” they say. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for these two creative girlies!
