SYTYCD Recap: Fight for the Finale

Last night marked the most important performance show of the competition as the dancers battled it out for a spot in the finale!
Lil ‘C joined the judge’s panel while Mary Murphy admitted it was tough seeing Janette go home last week. But it also reminded the audience and fans, more than ever, that this comp is completely in America’s hands!

Choreographer Sonya Tayek tipped off the show with the remaining three boys. They danced a Willy Wonka jazz routine that had the boys lifting each other for once! Lil ‘C was waiting for the day to see Brandon and Ade in the same routine and the two did not disappoint—Ade still proving that he is the one to watch out for. ‘C also noted that Evan wasn’t swallowed up by the two dancing giants.  Mary “just loved it” and Nigel thought Evan really stood out in his risky attempts while Sonya cheered with pure joy at the success of the routine!
Round One

Jeanine picked Ade to make a new match and their first challenge was a Samba. The two strong competitors looked very comfortable together with the non-traditional samba routine in practice! Mary, however, thought the actual performance fell flat 15 seconds into the routine!  Lil ‘C and Nigel thought Jeanine looked drop dead gorgeous, yet didn’t think the couple met their high expectations.

Melissa and Evan were up next with a Tyce Diorio Broadway routine. The dance was about a bride and a groom getting married. Evan had Melissa in giggles through practice, but the routine was no laughing matter for Lil ‘C who wanted to see Evan shine. Mary disagreed and thought it was very fun and entertaining while Nigel complimented both Evan and Melissa.

Kayla paired up with Brandon for the first time, and both dancers really stepped up their game with a contemporary piece. Lil ‘C thought the pairing was beyond amazing and the other two judges could not have agreed more giving good reviews from all around.
Round Two

Jeanine and Ade still had to prove themselves with a very tricky hip-hop routine. Jeanine definitely took some big risks with fast jumps and dance moves, and it completely paid off! Mary loved the “eviction notice” storyline and thought it would definitely keep them safe from being evicted off the show! Nigel thought the pair “got down” and outshined the choreography.

Melissa, feeling like an underdog in the comp, was so happy to have a shot at the finale with a super swift quick-step. Lil’ C commended Evan for dancing the biggest he has thus far in the competition; however, Mary thought the routine fizzled out toward the end.

Kayla and Brandon tried to top round one with a circus style disco, and Lil ‘C felt the couple looked right at home with the difficult lifts and technique. The dance was anything but boring and had Nigel literally JUMPING out of his seat!

To close the show, the top three girls teamed up with Sonya Tayek for a super-hero contemporary routine that unfortunately left Lil ‘C wanting the “buckness.” Mary gave credit where it was due and thought it was amazing while Nigel agreed it was the perfect topper to the night.
The dances are done and the votes are in but who will go home on tonight’s result show at 9 PM!
We want to know what you think! Did Brandon’s outstanding solo that brought the judges to their feet make him America’s next favorite dancer? Did Melissa and Evan’s second dance flop seal their fate?  Who will be the final four dancers in the final and who won’t make the cut? Blog it out now!
