Outdoor Workouts: Rollerblading!

This summer I rediscovered a love for something that I have long since left in the past. One word: Rollerblading.

You’d think it’d be hard to forget such an activity if I loved it so much, but it happened. After cleaning out my closet and finding my inline skates shoved behind my shoes, I decided to put on a pair of tube socks and give my skates a try.

It’s funny how much of a workout rollerblading actually is, at least in comparison to how it looks! At first glance, it seems graceful. Think about it: you’re swiftly gliding across the ground, the wind in your hair and the rest of the world behind you. But it’s tough exercise. Rollerblading is great when you wanna work out your whole lower body, especially your quads and calves.

I made the mistake of going pretty fast when I started out. After losing my balance and ending up on my back, I remembered that slow and steady wins the race. Taking my time, I regained my confidence and completed three laps around the track, a grand total of 4.5 miles in 40 minutes.

It’s such a good workout and it’s a lot of fun, especially with a friend!

Blog it out...how do you roll around? Are you a skateboarder, bicyclist or a rollerblader? Let us know how you express yourself on wheels!
