Online Gaming

My most recent obsession may be considered a bit on the geeky side, but I think it deserves a little time out in the limelight. Believe it or not, I’m an online gamer. My game of choice? Solitaire.

It’s still a surprise to see how many people have not heard of it or don’t understand how to play. Most, if not all computers, come with this game already installed and ready to go. It’s fairly basic and easy to understand, but beware: it’s easy to get hooked!

If you’re a lover of card games, you should go for this one. My little sister taught me how to play after stumbling upon the game herself. The concept is simple: out of a carefully mixed deck of cards, there are multiple piles of cards placed out, each containing a different number of cards, placed from left to right in size order of least to greatest.

You flip over the first card in each pile and stack them based on the natural order (if one of your cards is a King, and there’s a Queen available in another stack, you can place the Queen onto one of the King’s card, facing upward. A Jack would follow, and so on).

When you get to the bottom of a pile, you can move a King into the empty space, then you can stack the receding cards on top of it. There will be an extra pile of cards along the side that you have total access to and eventually, you’ll end up with four piles, in order of most superior card to the most inferior. If you accomplish this, then you’ve won!

There are more technicalities to the game, such as what to do with the Aces. It’s definitely more fun to learn by playing, though, so check out your computer’s game section or search for a version online.
