My Hole-in-one Hobby

I’m personally not a HUGE fitness femme. I try to eat healthy, but I’m not a total calorie-counting stickler. If I can walk instead of drive, I’ll make the trek. Ya know, the normal, average girl...
But like most, I def don’t spend enough time outdoors getting loads of daily exercise. That’s why when I saw my older bro hitting the golf range everyday, I decided, “hey, why not try picking up golf?” I had the clubs (a random prezzie from mom 6 years ago) and a lot of my friends—both girls and boys—seemed to enjoy it.

After going to the range and hitting a few balls, I realized that although golf is a total “finesse” sport and doesn’t require loads of strength (good for my petite, no-muscle frame) it’s probably one of the hardest sports to pick up with the zillion do’s and don’ts on how to swing, position the club, move your hips, yada, yada, yada. So I looked up an instructor and ever since I’ve been totally hooked.

Don’t let the standing around and golf carts fool you. If done properly, golf is a huge workout for your waist and arms. Eighteen holes takes about four to five hours to play so that’s time outside consistently spent walking around on miles and miles of beautiful green. Oh, and have you ever tried to carry a full bag of clubs? But if ya do decide to pick it up or putt a few holes already, make sure you keep in your regular fitness regiment. Golfing doesn’t help much in the upping your heart rate dept.

Also, there’s no age requirement to play. There’s an 8-year-old boy that has insane driving skills at the range I frequent, and one time my instructor pointed out a 10-year-old girl nearby who I should be looking to for pointers and tips. And on the flipside, my 50-something dad loves it just as much, too.

But my absolute fave part about golfing? The A-dorable accessories. I know, I know, it should be about the sport and getting some daily activity, but I totally can’t help it! You have cute socks for your irons, woods and drivers, colorful golf bags (and clubs!) and there’s totally a dress code on the field—preppy polos, Bermudas and tennis skirts.

So when the peeps over at kerigolf.com sent over some sweet goodies to jazz up my golf gear, I just had to test out a few. Here’s my  picks:

Corey Stand Bag, kerigolf.com

-This li’l number totally makes you stand out on the field. And if you look fab, it can only improve your game, right? With all the usual compartments for clubs and tees, it’s also got snazzy insulated storage to keep munchies and water cool.

Red Cobble Headcovers, kerigolf.com

-What’s a bag without the matching headcovers to boot? Hee. If you’re a total pro, ya know these guys are essential for keeping your clubs in tippy-top shape and free from scratches. If ya need ‘em, ya might as well opt for cute and colorful!

Sports and super-cute style? Count me in.

The only downside is that the equipment, lessons and accessories for golf are super pricey. But if you plan on sticking with it (which you totally can ‘til forever) it’s def a good investment. Wanna test it out without making the commitment and shellin’ down wads of cash? Most golf ranges in your area will have clubs you can rent and a bucket of balls to hit for a cool, non-committal $10!
Blog it out…Do you swing on the course, or is game of putt-putt more your thing? What’s your fave daily go-to sport?
