Walk for a Cure!

Something truly amazing has been happening throughout the past few years for girls and women. More women than men are graduating from college, more women have been beating men out of leadership positions and more opportunities are presenting themselves for girls every single day.

Meet Jennifer Bechard. Diagnosed at the age of 10 with hydrocephalus—a lifelong condition also known as water on the brain—Jennifer has had 87 surgeries to help manage her condition, which prohibits many patients from leading full lives. There is no cure and no treatment other than receiving these preventative surgeries, which is why Jennifer and her mom organized The Hydrocephalus WALK in Detroit, MI to raise money for research.

Not only have they raised $18,000 for this disease, but Jennifer and all of the members of The Detroit Hydrocephalus WALK are creating a support network for hydrocephalus families too.

Jennifer took her dreams and turned them into a reality. She is an inspiration for all of us to make something of our dreams! “I have hydrocephalus, [but] it will never have me!” Jennifer says. A living example that you really can do anything you set your mind to.
