ED BLOG: Olympic Outrage

Psyched for the Olympics in February? Us, too.

But today we got a little bummed out when we heard that there will be no women’s ski jumping, even though the men will be out on the slopes. Uh, what happened to equality for guys and girls? Despite all the strong female ski jumpers out there, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to keep the sport men’s-only. Not cool.

Title IX might’ve leveled the playing fields in the U.S. but, apparently, it’s diff on the world stage. The female ski jumpers have totally proved themselves (and petitioned for years). Girls should have the chance to go for the gold, too.

The 2010 Games should be a showcase for amazing male and female athletes, but the drama over the women’s ski jumping is proof that there is work still ahead of us. Hopefully, the IOC will reconsider their decision for the next Winter Olympics. We’ll be on the lookout in 2014.

Blog it out...What do you girls think? Are you surprised that some sports are still guys-only?
